Making new year's resolutions in the hope of making a change and having a better new year has become something I tend to do at the end of every year. Well, to be honest, I never seem to fully achieve much of the resolutions and goals I set for myself as planned. The reason is that I make various and great resolutions, which eventually causes me to feel bored and burdened. Therefore, I end up halfway to achieving the goals I set for the new year instead of fully achieving them.
According to studies, psychologists recommend setting few, simple goals instead of creating a long list of unattainable or unrealistic ones. After all, it is the simple resolutions and changes we make to our lifestyle that help us easily see and feel the desired change.
One of my previous year's resolutions was to get a healthy lifestyle. I've decided to consume less sugar, and I made it. I've also tried following a vegetarian diet for a while, and it was an incredible experience! Then I started watching out the amount of water that I should be drinking daily. I could feel the great effect that had on my health.

Anyway, let me share with you my new year's simple and attainable resolutions:
  • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
  • We all need dietary fibers, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that exist only in fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it shouldn't be so difficult to fill half of your plate with your favorite vegetables and fruits, while the other half includes proteins and carbohydrates. Variety of fruits and vegetable in your meals must be taken into consideration.

  • Cook more meals at home.
  • I'm not a fan of eating out since my mother's cooking is much more delicious than that full-of- fat and sodium fast food. However, I've decided to use cooking as a fun way of getting a healthier lifestyle. Moreover, it is a good way of getting rid of all the tension we get trying to keep up with this fast life.
My advice for you is to make sure that your recipes are as healthy as possible before considering cooking your own meals at home.

  • Drink no less than 2 liters of water a day.
  • The body needs 2-3 liters of water daily in order to detoxify itself and stay hydrated. This amount varies based on the physical activity and weight of a person.
Ever since I downloaded an application which reminds me of drinking water, I no longer forget about drinking more water. I often add sliced lime and mint to my water. This way I get both vitamin C and the amount of water my body needs, in addition to that fresh feeling that the lime and mint give.
You can try adding any kind of fruits such as strawberries, oranges or apples. As you may not feel thirsty during the cold winter days, you can try drinking warm water instead of cold water. This way you'll not only feel warm, but also get your daily share of water!

  • Try new activities and sports.
  • Sports help improve blood circulation, reduce tension and increase your feeling of happiness. Thus, exercising if even for 30 minutes daily would have a great impact on your health throughout the entire year.
You can always try new activities and exercises that are available on youtube. It would be great if you manage to involve family and friends in such activities.

  • Share your health changes and new ideas with family.
  • Involve your family or friends in your resolutions. For instance, try exercising or cooking healthy meals together. It will be fun, and it will make achieving your resolutions more fun and easier.'
